Making a Difference

Strolling along the edge of the sea, a man catches sight of a young women who appears to be engaged in a ritual dance. She stoops down, then straightens to her full height, casting her arm out in an arc.  Drawing closer, he sees that the beach around her is litered with starfish, and she is throwing them one by one into the sea.  He lightly mocks her: “There are stranded starfish as far as the eye can see, for miles up the beach.  What a difference can saving a few of them possibly make?”  Smiling, she bends down and once more tosses a starfish out over the water, saying serenely, “It certainly makes a difference to this one.”

THE SECRET

The Secret

I recently had the opportunity to see an online movie called The Secret.  It is a movie created to bring about personal change in how we engage the world.  At first I felt a bit resistant to it, because I had heard fellow friends talk about how great this movie was, yet it was based on very new age, universalist ideas.

I am a believer in Jesus Christ and it is important to me to focus my thoughts and “energy” towards becoming more like Christ.  So as I watched this movie it took me some to time pull the diamonds from the rough.  But I share it here because it truly had an effect on my life and I want you to experience the same.

If you have not seen The Secret, you can visit the website here.  It costs about $4.95 to watch the movie online.  It is well worth the money just to be exposed to new ideas about the law of attraction.  Now you may think “Law of attraction?”  It doesn’t have anything to do with personal appearances.  It has to do with what you attract with your thoughts or as they addressed it as energy.  It has so much to do with the Biblical law of sowing and reaping.

Our lives are a reflection of how we think.  As it has been said “To think is to create.”

Once you watch the movie, Comment here what you thought.

The Greatest Pitcher

A little boy was overheard talking to himself as he strutted through the backyard, wearing his baseball cap and toting a ball and bat.  “I’m the greatest hitter in the world,” he announced.  Then, he tossed the ball into the air, swung at it, and missed.  “Strike One!” he yelled.  Undaunted, he picked up the ball and said again, “I’m the greatest hitter in the world!”  He tossed the ball into the air.  when it came down he swung again and missed.  “Strike two!” he cried.  The boy then paused a moment to examine his bat and ball carefully.  He spit on his hands and said once more, “I’m the greatest hitter in the world!”  Again he tossed the ball in the air and swung at it.  He missed. “Strike Three!” “Wow!” he exclaimed.  “I’m the Greatest Pitcher in the World!” -Author Unknown

You see, your attitude determines how circumstances impact your life.  The little boy’s circumstances hadn’t changed, but his optimistic attitude prompted him to give and encouraging meaning to what had happened.  What difficult time are you going through right now?  Can you do something to change it? If you can, don’t wait another day, make the needed changes.  If you can’t change the circumstances, however, change your attitude; you’ll discover that circumstances won’t have the last word!
