Fear of Greatness

Mrs. Erin“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.  Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.  It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.  We ask ourselves, ‘who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented fabulous?’  Actually, who are you not to be?  You are a child of God.  Your playing small does not serve the world.  There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.  We are all meant to shine, as children do.  We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.  It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.  And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.  As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

By Marianne Williamson as quoted by: Nelson Mandela in his inaugural address as president of South Africa.

There is greatness inside every Kindermusik educator.  Have you been in a room with new educators and watch the magic happen as they discuss their vision and passion for teaching Kindermusik?  Or even listen in as seasoned educators share their greatest moments with the children in their programs.  It truly is God’s glory made manifest in us.  As the music plays and voices sing, our hearts open to our families, light comes from our very being as a gift to the children.

We can easily understand other fears like fear of rejection; being told, “No, I am not going to enroll right now”, or trying something new for the very first time.  Yet are you afraid of being great?  Every person is great and has a gift to give the world.  That gift is you.  You are the gift that is served to the world.  That is true leadership; being a leader through inspiration, guided by a vision, ignited with a passion, and served as a gift to the world.

“As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”  When we find our purpose and calling in teaching Kindermusik, our freedom in laughter, joy, discovery and beauty finds its way in to the hearts of our families.  They become free to laugh and to love with greater capacity from their experiences in our classrooms.  Our presence automatically liberates them.

“Your playing small does not serve the world.”  When we play small our light is limited by our fears.  It is controlled and it not true light.  When we limit ourselves to a small game, fear and intimidation controls our purpose.  Yet when we believe our purpose is a gift and greatness is in us, we are a brilliant, guiding light.
